- Warm Wishes Quilters
We are a non-profit charitable group. We are all seniors with various levels of expertise. We share tips and techniques, provide a teaching and social atmosphere Thursday mornings. So not only do we donate to those in need we contribute to the well being of any Senior who wants to, or needs social activity in their lives.
We use the facilities through the generosity of the Sackville Seniors Advisory Council which we are all members of, under the Director, Charlene Nolan. This is where all our supplies and machines are stored. Without their support we would not be able to provide this Community Service. Thank you Sackville Seniors. Two quilts are donated to the Sackville Seniors Advisory Council each year as part of our contribution to the center.
Quilting for charity is a beautiful way to give back to the community, while still practicing the art of patchwork and growing skills.
From 2015 to November 2019 over 20 quilters produced more then 300 quilts that were donated to charitable organizations in the Halifax area. Among the recipients were , Nursing Homes, The Lodge that Gives, IWK, Cancer patients, Palliative Care and Homeless shelters to name a few.
Funding is provided primarily through direct donations as well as through our fund-raising efforts.
You do not need to be a quilter to participate in our quilt-making group. You will learn a great deal by working with other quilters and may even pick up new techniques and tricks.
The demand and need for quilts continues to rise steadily and new volunteers are welcomed to help us meet that demand.
